My little Dokie’s birthday fell on a Monday, so we had a cake for him the at a family get together the next Sunday, which happened to also be Mother’s Day. I can’t believe Connor is already 6 years old! In my mind, he will forever be the fun loving little toddler ready to take over the world.
His birthday fell on a Monday, but he still had a super busy birthday. After school, we had some pizza for dinner, before heading to the Sports Park for Connor’s practice. Gavin played with some friends at the park, then after Connor’s practice, we all headed over to Turtleback to catch the end of the book fair. Gavin had birthday donuts for dessert, when we made it back home.
I can’t believe he is double digits now. I failed to capture photos, but he had a good day. Happy birthday Bub!
We had a little celebration at Eddie and Sally’s house for the boys’ birthdays.
Gavin wanted to start his birthday in the pool, so the boys and I had a lot of fun swimming together at the hotel. Then we headed out to walk around downtown San Luis Obispo.
We stopped by Cal Poly to take a photo in front of the entrance sign, and in the process I had to save a poor college girl who was being accosted by two wild turkeys. I don’t remember turkeys existing on campus back in my day, but I managed to scare them off.
We finished off Gavin’s 11th birthday by eating pizza at Klondike, a favorite of ours in Arroyo Grande. Then we had some birthday cake back in the hotel room.
My “Bub” turned 12, and although we are stuck inside we tried to make it a special day. Aliciana made him a cool baseball themed banner, and his little brother made him a cool green bear out of clay. There were presents, pizza, and a cake for dessert.
Another Covid-19 shelter-at-home birthday, this time for Connor. Aliciana made a cool Pokemon themed banner, and he received lots of Legos.
For his special birthday dinner, he requested Spaghetti Factory, his favorite. And for dessert, him and mom made homemade dairy-free ice cream sandwiches.
There are not a whole lot of options regarding how to celebrate your birthday in a pandemic, so I went for a hike with my favorite people. We walked down the La Orilla trail which ran along the back part of the San Elijo lagoon.
On the way back up the trail, I surprised a bobcat, who dashed into the vegetation and then stared at us. It was dark so I had trouble getting a good photo, but you can barely make out his pointy ears and yellow eyes looking out from the bushes.
My little Bub is now a teenager. He spent his day among the animals at the Zoo, which we hadn’t visited since before the pandemic. Afterwards, we feasted on Gavin’s favorite Woodstock’s pizza.
Connor stepped up to double digits this year! After opening presents in the morning, he spent all day playing baseball or watching his brother play.
He got to try out his new catcher gear, and it must work because he made a big tag at home to prevent a run, allowing his team to win the game. Connor must have been good luck for his brother too, because Gavin hit a single for the walk-off win in his game, against the #1 ranked team.
It was a fun filled 14th birthday for Gavin. He started his day opening his presents. The big box of parts is a foosball table, his favorite game besides baseball.
We spent the early afternoon playing a full 36 holes of miniature golf. We finished with just enough time to run home and get Connor to his baseball game.
Gavin finished off his birthday with a dinner of Marco’s pizza and some birthday brownies.
Connor got to share his birthday with Mother’s Day this year, just like the day he was born. He opened his presents in the morning, getting a cool microscope and a giant box of baseball cards. He finally pulled a Wander Franco rookie card, which he has been trying to get since the card series came out.
We spent the rest of the day at a Birthday/Mother’s Day party down at Kristel’s house. The boys had a blast swimming with all their cousins and some of Jesse’s side of the family. Towards the end of the day, we sang to Connor and all ate cake.
We decided to give Gavin his birthday present nearly 3 weeks early, so he could use it in his upcoming games.
We went bowling to celebrate Gavin’s birthday, then had some birthday pizza at Pizza Port. Gavin wrapped up his night with some birthday brownies, which are his favorite. Happy birthday Bub!
