Pre-Christmas Gift Opening
We decided to open our gifts from the Seattle Ladd/Quan clan before heading out tomorrow to San Diego. Gavin enjoyed opening his book and shirts. Aliciana got some rubber stamps and a photo holder which she will surely put to good use soon.
I was gifted with a new book “Building Scalable Web Sites” which I have had my eye on for a while. I am looking forward to starting it once I finish “Programming Collective Intelligence“. Yes Jessie, I am quite a geek. Also got a penguin ornament to add to the tree.
Some photos below of Gavin enjoying his first Christmas presents. I got some crappy green lens flares on the last few photos that otherwise look pretty cool. Nick, any idea how I can prevent this suckage in the future? Was it the UV filter I had on the lens? Or was it because I was shooting 800 ISO and the Christmas tree has tons of lights? I really need to get a book on photography… I can’t blame ruining perfect shots on my camera anymore.

2 bottom teeth and 4 about to pop through his gums on the top.
Standing up and walking with support. He just needs to get his balance and he will be mobile.
Happy and in perfect health. A perfect little angel.

Gavin’s First Haircut
Gavin’s hair was always in his face so we decided to give him his first haircut. Unfortunately, I thought it would be a good idea to do the actual cutting while his hair was wet. I cut his bangs at his eyebrow level but after his hair dried they were an inch shorter than we wanted.
Luckily, Gavin’s hair grows very fast so hopefully he will look normal again in 2 or 3 weeks. In the meantime, he will look like a little Julius Caesar and I will be in the dog house.

Winter Colds Suck
Aliciana and Gavin spent all weekend sick. I did my best to take care of them but there isn’t much you can do for a 9 month old with a cold. All I could offer is lots of cuddling and back rubs. Gavin can’t take any medicine except Children’s Tylenol, which does help with his aches. But his little cough just breaks my heart.
We had to resort to giving him his second bath of the day this evening. His ‘baby spa’ with Johnson’s Soothing Vapor Bath is the only thing that could make him comfortable.

Gavin: The Year In Review – Part 1

Gavin is almost a year old. I’ve collected several photos over the past year that I have not previously posted. It’s amazing how much he’s changed. Here are photos from his first 3 months.

The start of our move to Bakersfield. Gavin was such a trooper during our trip. 3 days on the road would be long for anyone.

Gavin’s First Easter Basket
Of course, Gavin had more fun with the paper grass in the basket than with his new book or the rabbit his Grandma Toni and Grandpa Rick gave him. The things that make the most mess are always the most fun.

Happy 1st Birthday Gavin!
I can’t believe this year has gone by so fast. It seems like you were only a small baby for a brief moment and I’m afraid before we know it you will be all grown up. But, “Ma-ma” and “Da-da” are enjoying every minute with you.
Baby Bear, always remember your family, mother, and I love you with all our hearts! We are looking forward to all the adventures we get to spend together in the future. Thank you for blessing our lives with such joy.
