Aliciana and I went to the BMX and Band Show this afternoon at Cal Poly. It was a nice day to get out so we ended up spending several hours there. We saw some amazing professional BMX riders do some incredible tricks and stunts. We also caught a good performance by a band named Joose who sounded a lot like Dave Matthews Band. Before checking out the show, we went over to both Nick and Jessie’s labs and saw them hard at work.

Today Aliciana and I went for a hike on the Reservoir Canyon trail. This trail is located right before you start climbing up the Cuesta grade coming from San Luis Obispo. It is about 0.5 miles down Reservoir Canyon Road off of Highway 101. It is a nice and easy hike, only 2.8 miles long, and a 200 foot elevation gain. We didn’t see much wild life, just some lizards and a few fish, but it was still a beautiful area to walk through.

My parents were in town for this Memorial Day weekend. My grandparents also came to town for Saturday. We all met at The Hofbrau in Morro Bay for lunch and then headed to Cal Poly’s Chumash Auditorium for the 5th year architecture student final project show. Both my brother and his girlfriend Jessie had their final projects on display. There were a lot of good projects but I have to say that I feel my brother’s and Jessie’s were defiantly among the best there.

My grandparents left to go back to Bakersfield after the show and the rest of my family ended up at our apartment for a BBQ. The dinner was delicious and it was nice to hang out all evening as a family.

My mom and Aliciana went to church on Sunday morning and then we all grabbed a bite to eat at Cugini’s. From there we headed up to see the elephant seals that sun themselves on a beach 15 miles north of San Simeon. My mom and dad had never seen them before. The elephant seals, as usual, were quite amazing to watch.

We had dinner in a good Mexican restaurant in San Simeon and then headed back to San Luis Obispo. Monday morning we had breakfast at Hobee’s and then said good bye to my mom and dad. They will be back in 10 days for Aliciana’s graduation so it was more like a see you later than a good bye.

Aliciana and I went on our first geocache yesterday. For those who don’t know, geocaching is quite similar to just going on a hike except the hike is laid out by other geocachers and the goal of the hike is to use your GPS to find the cache at the end of the hike. To find different geocaches to go on, you just go to www.geocaching.com and look them up.

The hike we went on was short but steep. It had some beautiful views of San Luis Obispo from on top of the hill we ended up on. Geocaching is definitely a fun hobby and we are looking forward to doing a couple different hikes every month. It is a great way to find trails you never knew about and to get some exercise and fresh air.

We ended up doing a lot on our short trip. Aliciana and I got to ride on the gondola in front of the Venetian Hotel for free. Thanks for hooking us up Courtney! It was a cool experience but there is no way it is worth $50. The ride was 10 minutes long and the gondolier sang us 2 songs. We even ended up getting the $15 photograph at the end for free because they forgot to take it at the beginning.

While we were in Las Vegas we also celebrated my mom’s 50th birthday. Congratulations for making it a half century mom! Overall it was a good trip, but it seemed short. Hopefully we can make it back to Las Vegas sometime in the next year. Aliciana started her new job last Monday, so we won’t be able to travel as much as we have been in the past.
